Statement 2026 - Moody Landscapes
My earlier works have centered more on being expressive with strokes and bold colour primarily centered on land & seascapes inspired by home and beyond. These creations have become well known for being aesthetically pleasing and expressive. While I still continue this in the form of alla prima Sea Blocks in oil paint, my current work takes on a more atmospheric effect with my Moody Landscapes.
For this series I work with a limited palette using dusky oranges, blues and earthy greens to create an atmosphere and mood both evocative and dreamy. The process I use is both intuitive and layered with thick dabs of knife work mixed with subtle smudges with a brush. The process also involves scratching and scraping off paint and textured mark making that draws the viewers gaze throughout the painting.
This series has a unifying orange undertone throughout, for me it's both warm and satisfying, creating in me quiet contentment and a mature feeling.
